At Cisco Live 2025, Cisco Systems unveiled a host of cutting-edge technologies designed to power the next generation of AI workloads, emphasizing the need for a robust and secure infrastructure to meet the demands of an increasingly AI-driven world.
With artificial intelligence advancing at a rapid pace, from chatbots to autonomous agents, enterprises are facing unprecedented challenges in scaling their networks to support AI’s insatiable demands for compute power, bandwidth, and security. Cisco, the San Jose-based networking giant, is positioning itself as the infrastructure provider that will enable businesses to thrive in this new era.
Cisco Live 2025: AI-Optimized Hardware for the Future
Here are some of the key hardware announced at Cisco Live 2025.
Cisco C9350 and C9610 Smart Switches
Cisco introduced the C9350 and C9610 Smart Switches, designed to power campus networks and cater to high-demand AI applications. These switches, powered by Cisco’s Silicon One technology, deliver a groundbreaking 51.2 Tbps throughput with sub-5-microsecond latency, making them ideal for low-latency, high-capacity AI operations.
These new smart switches also come equipped with Hypershield, an AI-powered security architecture designed to protect data centers from emerging threats. The launch of these switches builds upon Cisco’s earlier release of the Nexus 9300 series of smart switches, which feature embedded data processing units specifically designed for AI and data center workloads.
Cisco Secure Routers (8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 8500 Series)
In line with the AI revolution, Cisco introduced five new Secure Routers: 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 8500. These routers are optimized to integrate native SD-WAN (Software-Defined Wide Area Networking) and Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) technologies, along with next-gen firewall (NGFW) and post-quantum security features, offering businesses three times the throughput of previous models. The new routers enable enterprises to ensure secure, high-performance connectivity across branch offices, offering simplified, scalable networking solutions that are ready for AI’s demands.
Cisco Wireless 9179F Series Access Points
To further bolster its AI-focused portfolio, Cisco expanded its wireless capabilities at Cisco Live 2025 with the Wireless 9179F Series Access Points for large venues like stadiums and arenas. These access points are the latest in Cisco’s Wi-Fi 7 lineup, offering seamless cloud-managed roaming across expansive networks.
The integration of Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul (URWB) technology into these access points ensures high-density wireless connections, ideal for environments that require low-latency, high-reliability connectivity. Cisco’s unified management platform allows customers to manage both Meraki (cloud-based) and Catalyst (on-premises) devices from a single dashboard, offering flexibility for different network environments.
Ruggedized Switches for Industrial AI Applications
As AI starts to infiltrate industries such as manufacturing and logistics, Cisco also unveiled 19 new ruggedized switches designed for industrial use. These switches cater to demanding AI applications like visual quality inspection and autonomous mobile robots, ensuring that industrial environments maintain high levels of performance and reliability even in challenging conditions. The ruggedized switches integrate URWB and Wi-Fi technologies to create a unified, high-density wireless infrastructure across IT and industrial environments.
AI-Powered Infrastructure and Security Innovations
With AI placing unprecedented strain on infrastructure, Cisco is keenly aware of the need for modernized IT infrastructure. To address this, Cisco is working with its longstanding partner NTT Data to offer AI-powered software-defined infrastructure (SDI) services.
These services aim to help businesses modernize their IT environments by transforming hardware resources like compute, storage, and networking into software-defined assets. According to Cisco’s AI Readiness Index, 94% of C-suite executives agree that legacy infrastructure is holding back business agility, and only 13% of enterprises are truly ready to leverage AI to its full potential.
NTT Data’s SDI services will provide businesses with AI-optimized data centers, secure networking architectures, and a proactive, predictive approach to IT operations. This collaboration highlights the growing need for businesses to rethink their infrastructure to accommodate the scale and power required by AI.
Introducing AgenticOps: AI for IT Operations
Cisco released AgenticOps at Cisco Live 2025. It is a new paradigm that integrates real-time telemetry, automation, and domain expertise into intelligent actions to streamline IT operations. This approach is designed to support the growing number of AI agents that will soon take over numerous tasks within enterprise environments. Cisco unveiled AI Canvas, a generative AI user interface that allows NetOps, SecOps, and DevOps teams to collaborate seamlessly. With AI Canvas, businesses can optimize operations, troubleshoot issues, and execute actions across multiple data domains—all while reducing IT strain.
The underlying technology behind AgenticOps is Cisco’s Deep Network Model, a highly specialized domain-specific language model (LLM) trained on decades of Cisco’s networking expertise. This model powers Cisco’s AI Assistant, which helps IT teams troubleshoot, identify issues, and automate workflows in natural language, making AI more accessible for everyday users.
Security at the Core of AI-Driven Infrastructure
As AI presents immense opportunities, it also introduces new risks. Cisco’s Infrastructure and Security Group, led by Craig Connors, is focused on addressing these concerns by ensuring that AI infrastructure is built with security and zero-trust networking at its core. Cisco unveiled several key innovations to improve data center and branch security at Cisco Live 2025, including the Cisco Secure Firewall 6100 Series, which provides modular, scalable data center firewalls capable of handling 200 Gbps per rack unit. The firewall can be managed via the Cisco Security Cloud, offering integrated security across the entire network.
For branch offices, Cisco introduced the Secure Firewall 200 Series at Cisco Live 2025, designed for SD-WAN and offering advanced on-box threat inspection at up to three times the price-performance of competitors. These new security innovations complement Cisco’s existing unified fabric approach, which converges LAN, SAN, and AI/ML fabrics into a single management dashboard, simplifying operations and improving performance.
Expanded AI PODs and New 400G Optics
To support the growing demand for AI workloads, Cisco is expanding its AI PODs at Cisco Live 2025, which offer flexible and scalable solutions for AI use cases like training and fine-tuning. The company has also partnered with Nvidia to offer validated solutions, including the Nvidia RTX 6000 Pro in Cisco UCS C845A M8 servers, ensuring that businesses have a secure and scalable foundation for AI applications.
In addition, Cisco introduced 400G Bidirectional (BiDi) optics at Cisco Live 2025, which enable easy transitions to 400G networks without the need to overhaul existing fiber infrastructure, making high-speed networking more cost-effective and scalable for AI workloads.
