November 26, 2025Cisco acquires NeuralFabric to boost generative AI strategy. NeuralFabric Corp., a Seattle-based startup focused on enterprise generative AI, to bolster its push into domain-specific artificial intelligence and accelerate its generative AI roadmap.
NeuralFabric, founded in 2023 by a team of former Microsoft engineers, has developed a generative AI platform that enables organizations to build what the company calls “small language models”, variant models trained on proprietary data and designed for domain-specific tasks. These models can be deployed across SaaS and on-premises environments, addressing key enterprise concerns such as data sovereignty and model control.
Cisco’s vice president of AI software and platform, DJ Sampath, said that NeuralFabric’s capabilities will integrate with Cisco’s existing generative AI interface, AI Canvas, introduced earlier this year. “NeuralFabric’s capabilities will help develop and strengthen the foundation of AI Canvas by introducing advanced tools for modular SLM development, streamlined model training, and flexible deployment options,” Sampath wrote in a blog post.
Cisco acquires NeuralFabric to enhance its enterprise AI capabilities. The company has committed to placing its bets on AI initiatives to the tune of US $1 billion, and is actively investing in and acquiring AI-focused companies. For example, earlier this year Cisco invested in Gruve.ai and partnered with Mistral AI to build an internal AI agent for renewal-workflow automation.
