Expanding AI Observability Capabilities

Galileo Technologies specializes in AI observability—tools that allow organizations to monitor, evaluate, and improve AI systems in real time. Its platform is designed to detect errors, enforce safety guardrails, and provide insights across the lifecycle of AI models, from development to production.

By integrating Galileo’s technology into Splunk, Cisco aims to give enterprises deeper visibility into AI systems, especially complex multi-agent environments. This integration is expected to enhance real-time monitoring and help organizations identify and resolve AI-related issues before they impact users.

Strengthening Cisco’s AI Strategy

The acquisition aligns with Cisco’s broader ambition to position itself as a key infrastructure and security provider in the AI era. Following its $28 billion acquisition of Splunk in 2024, the company has been building a comprehensive ecosystem that combines data analytics, cybersecurity, and observability.

Galileo’s capabilities will further extend this ecosystem by enabling what Cisco describes as “end-to-end AI observability.” This includes monitoring AI behavior, evaluating model performance, and enforcing safeguards throughout the AI development lifecycle.

Cisco executives emphasized that the addition of Galileo will “supercharge” existing AI monitoring features within Splunk, allowing customers to build and deploy AI systems with greater confidence, control, and trust.

Focus on Trust and Safety in AI

A key driver behind the acquisition is the growing need for trustworthy AI systems. Galileo’s platform helps detect hallucinations, bias, and performance drift—critical challenges as enterprises increasingly rely on generative AI and autonomous agents.

Industry leaders note that as AI agents become more autonomous, ensuring their reliability and accountability becomes essential. Cisco has been actively investing in this area, positioning observability and security as foundational layers for enterprise AI adoption.

Deal Timeline and Outlook

While financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed, the transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Cisco’s fiscal year 2026. Until then, both companies will continue to operate independently.

Once completed, the deal is expected to accelerate innovation within Splunk and strengthen Cisco’s competitive position in the rapidly evolving AI infrastructure market.

Conclusion

Cisco’s planned acquisition of Galileo Technologies highlights the increasing importance of AI observability as organizations scale their AI deployments. By embedding advanced monitoring and evaluation capabilities into Splunk, Cisco is aiming to provide enterprises with the tools needed to ensure AI systems are not only powerful—but also reliable, secure, and trustworthy.
