5. Security and Backup

GoDaddy offers basic security features like free SSL and DDoS protection. However, automated backups and advanced security options require additional payments. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has mandated GoDaddy to improve its security practices after finding the company’s measures inadequate to protect its website-hosting environments.

The FTC’s complaint outlined that GoDaddy failed to implement basic security protocols such as asset and software management, risk assessment for shared hosting services, event monitoring, and proper segmentation of hosting environments.

These lapses led to multiple security breaches between 2019 and 2022, exposing customer websites and data to unauthorized access, putting consumers at risk.

Additionally, GoDaddy misled customers by claiming it had implemented reasonable security measures and was in compliance with the EU-US and Swiss-US Privacy Shield frameworks, which was not the case. As part of the settlement, GoDaddy is required to establish a robust information security program and hire an independent third party to conduct biennial reviews of its security practices to ensure compliance moving forward.

Pros:

• Basic security features included.
• SiteLock and CodeGuard available as add-ons.
• Free SSL on most plans.

User Feedback: “GoDaddy’s security options are decent, but I had to pay extra for daily backups and malware scanning.”

Security is one of Hostnoc’s strongest areas. Automated daily backups, managed firewalls, and intrusion detection come standard with all plans.

Pros:

• Comprehensive security features by default.
• Daily backups and disaster recovery included.
• Proactive monitoring and intrusion detection.

User Feedback: “Hostnoc’s security gives me peace of mind. I know my data is safe without having to pay for extra services.”
