7 New Year’s Resolutions IT Should Set For 2024

Here are seven new year’s resolutions for IT departments in 2024.

1.  Create Flexible Teams

The pace at which the technology landscape is evolving forces IT leaders to stay nimble and create agile teams. Your teams must be able to quickly pivot according to the changes in industry dynamics and respond to trends before your competitors do. This will prevent your business from holding on to wrong ideas and projects for long and experiment with innovative ideas and see whether it works or not quickly.

For this to happen, you will have to get rid of rigid organizational structure and ditch complex hierarchy. This would force you to bring structural changes to your organization and team and change your organization culture and mindset. Yes it will change how your organization operates but can also help you achieve better results faster.

Moreover, this gives you more freedom to assemble specialized teams for specific projects. This will provide you more flexibility to soufflé around resources and form project specific teams to speed up project execution. Agile and dynamic teams can respond to market trends in a much better way than rigid teams as they can adapt quickly to emerging technology trends and offer customers what they are looking for.

2.  Map Out Your AI Journey

Some businesses are still skeptical about AI while others have already put AI into production. If your business belongs to the former category then you need to answer some common questions and address the reservations of key stakeholders to expedite AI adoption. You can not afford to wait long as you are already behind in the race.

Set ambitious AI goals for 2024 and create a strategy to achieve those goals. Define a roadmap for AI implementation and set milestones so you can easily track your AI journey. Focus on making artificial intelligence an integral part of your business instead of treating it as a separate add-on.

You might have to tweak your strategies and processes to integrate artificial intelligence into your organization fabric but the effort is well worth it. Artificial intelligence will get out of the labs and become ingrained in our professional and personal lives in 2024.

3.  Embrace Strategic Innovation

IT and business teams have their differences and creating alignment among both teams is the biggest challenge for IT leaders. Strategic innovation can help you overcome this issue by mapping out technology solutions with the strategic goals of the business. Businesses must take the strategic approach to driving change and digital transformation.

Instead of looking at the technology itself, you should look at the challenges a particular technology can help you overcome and opportunities that technology can offer and help you take advantage of. When you think from this perspective when making technological decisions, you will end up choosing technologies that can benefit your business in the long run.

4.  Master Emerging Technologies

New technologies are introduced every year and 2024 will be no different. How you react to these emerging technologies will influence the success and failure of your business. Neglecting emerging new technology is a huge missed opportunity for your business. These new technologies have the potential to change the course of your business.

You want to invest in technologies that are here to stay for decades to come.

5.  Make Security A Priority

Most businesses think of security as an afterthought. The growing number of cybersecurity attacks and data breaches targeting businesses have forced them to change their approach. 6.  Achieve More With Fewer Resources

The economic uncertainty will force businesses to cut back on their spending and IT departments will bear the brunt of this. As IT budgets remain stagnant, CIOs will have to find new ways to achieve more with fewer resources. If you have already migrated your entire workload to the cloud, it is time to optimize your cloud infrastructure. Adopt FinOps to reduce cloud waste and get a better return from your cloud investments. Ensure optimal utilization of cloud resources so you only end up paying the prices for cloud resources you use.

7.  Convert IT Into A Business Driver

IT has long been seen as a cost center but 2024 will be the year when it will cement its place as a business enabler. It will become a key business driver. As the focus shifts towards outcome based technology solutions, IT contribution towards your overall business revenue will increase. More and more businesses will look to use IT not just as an operational tool but as a driver for revenue for your business.
